Martin Keown: Time for Nicklas Bendtner to wake up and realise that his career could pass him by

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes it’s time for the young generation of Arsenal players to step it up and start delivering.

Speaking to Sport.co.uk, the Englishman declared how many players have now reached a stage where they cannot be considered young anymore and it’s time for them to show what they can do and what they are really made of, especially 22-year old Nicklas Bendtner.

The Dane has never been shy in admitting how one day he can easily be one of the best strikers in the world but according to Keown he is to be more aggressive and more dominant, knowing that if he doesn’t delivery in the near future, it could be too late for him when he actually realises it’s time to deliver on the pitch.

Keown concluded by saying how the Danish International should make his presence felt up front, by bullying central defenders. Last month, the ex-Arsenal centre back also spoke about the experience lacking in the Arsenal squad, saying how more players like Sol Campbell are required.

On Bendtner, he said:

I think we’re getting more to the stage now where we want to see that talent coming through.

Like Bendtner, for instance – I think he needs to become more aggressive and more dominant and it’s time for him to wake up and realise that his career could pass him by if he doesn’t start doing it on the pitch.

He’s got to start bullying central defenders and realise that there’s no time to lose. That kind of attitude has to come in from some of those players.
