Fabregas: We play total football

Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes the current Spain team play 'total football' as well as the Dutch sides who invented it in the 1970s.

Fabregas and Spain will face the Netherlands in Sunday's World Cup final, and the Arsenal man fancies his country's chances.

Although, he is aware of the threat Holland will face, with their impressive recent unbeaten run.

He said: "It is a privilege to be part of this Spanish team because we try to play the correct way.

"I know Holland invented Total Football back in the 70s, and I know those players made the game beautiful to watch. But we try to play the same way and I think the world can see that. Against Germany, we never gave up our principles - pass, pass, pass and never stop trying to score. Eventually we got our reward.

"Holland will not be easy. We are totally aware they are the only team to reach the final unbeaten."

The 23-year-old was part of the Spain team that won Euro 2008, but believes the World Cup is a big step up from that triumph.

He explained: "This is the ultimate game of football, to decide who is the greatest team on the planet.

"Becoming European champions two years ago was an amazing moment and made the whole of Spain so proud. But winning the World Cup would magnify that feeling a hundred times."
