Walcott was part of Fabio Capello’s squad for the recent friendly against the Czech Republic, but was an unused sub during the 2-2 draw at Wembley.
The Arsenal striker thought he had been relegated to the Under-21 squad for the European Championship qualifier against Portugal at Wembley next Friday.
But the England boss saw Walcott in action for Arsenal against Newcastle on Saturday and called him back into the senior squad.
He is now desperate to show he can compete on the international stage.
Walcott said: “It is nice to have a good performance and to show Mr Capello what I can do. I take it each game as it comes and that is all I can do.
“It is an honour to have been in the senior squad this year. Hopefully I can keep performing well and then stay in there.
“It will be nice next time if I can get a performance as well at Wembley. That is the next step and hopefully that will come soon.
“I am used to being in the England squad after my experience of going to the World Cup.
"I am used to being with the team now and get on well with all the players.”
When asked if he plans to be more nasty on the field, Walcott added: “That is the thing that has changed. I just want to keep on showing what I can do and all the fans love it as well. You have got to win the ball back sometimes.
“I just need to show how much it means for me to play. If I perform and defend well, hopefully I can keep my place.”
