Arsenal fight to the death for AlonsoArsenal were last night negotiating with Liverpool over the signature of sought after midfielder Xabi Alonso. The gunners have been linked with the Spaniard for most of the summer with Liverpool's interest in Gareth Barry used as a smokescreen on several occassions by the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.According to the Independent Arsenal increased their quoted £12m offer for Alonso to £14m and there is no confirmation of any transfer having gone through before the deadline. I have almost everything crossed on Alonso being unveilled as an Arsenal player in the morning - stranger things have happened.
