Arsene Wenger, “The guy who plays on Sunday will be No. 1″

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that whoever starts in goal today against Liverpool will be the regular No. 1 for the Gunners at least for the first part of the season.

According to reports, it is very difficult to predict whether it will be Manuel Almunia or Lukasz Fabianski to start this afternoon, with Wojciech Szczęsny right behind them in terms of Wenger’s preference. According to the Frenchman, all his goalkeepers are great and ready to feature as he added how his decision will be based on what he saw during pre-season.

On the youngest of the three, Wenger explained that it would be a gamble as he’s yet to play a game in the English Premier League so it seems that the decision is between 33-year old Almunia and 25-year old Fabianski.

Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer and Manchester City’s Shay Given are both heavily linked with a possible move to Arsenal with Fulham manager Mark Hughes playing down speculation saying how he wants to keep the 37-year old Australian.

On his goalkeepers, Wenger said:

The goalkeepers are great, all ready to play. I just wait for my decision and you will get it soon.

The guy who plays on Sunday will be No 1. It is never for definite but it will be a consequence of what I have seen in pre-season.

[Szczęsny] has not played one game in the Premier League. I believe he has huge quality but I believe it would be a great gamble to play him.

Man United play with a goalkeeper who is 40 years old and Chelsea with a keeper with seven years in the Premier League. You need experience at the back.
