Song left on bench as Cameroon lose to Japan

Alex Song was not involved as Cameroon suffered a 1-0 defeat to Japan on Monday.

Paul Le Guen opted to leave the Arsenal midfielder on the bench and the 22-year-old did not see any action as Keisuke Honda's first-half strike earned Japan three points in Group E.

It was the first time Cameroon have lost their opening game at a World Cup.

The result means defeat to Denmark on Saturday would take The Indomitable Lions' fate out of their own hands and could end their hopes of qualifying for the last 16 if other results go against them.
