'England call-ups great news for Academy'

Liam Brady believes Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere's call-ups to the England squad is great news for the Arsenal Academy.

The Gunners' Head of Youth Development is also confident the duo will handle the pressure ahead of what could be their international debut against Hungary at Wembley on Wednesday evening.

Fabio Capello's current squad contains four players who have passed through Arsenal's Academy - Ashley Cole, Theo Walcott, Gibbs and Wilshere.

"It is great news for the Academy," Brady told Arsenal.com upon hearing of the most recent call-ups on Saturday.

"It is great news for Jack and for Kieran and I am sure they will handle it very well.

"When I didn't see them in the England Under-21 squad I thought they would make the senior side. It seems Capello is making a statement that he wants to bring new blood in.

"It reflects very well for the Academy to have two players picked for England. And remember we [developed] Ashley Cole as well."

Another Academy graduate, Henri Lansbury, is in the current England Under-21 squad. Thomas Cruise has just returned from England duty at the European Under-19 Championships, and both Benik Afobe and Chuks Aneke were both selected to represent the Three Lions at the Under-17 European Championships earlier in the summer.
