Defender turns down Arsenal move

Defender Sol Campbell has turned down the chance to extend his contract at Arsenal and chosen instead to move to Newcastle United.

Manager Arsène Wenger offered the former England international a one-year extension to the deal that expired at the end of June, but told him that there was no guarantee of first team football.

Newly-promoted Newcastle however, offered Campbell a two-year contract with the prospect of being able to play more regularly.

Given our recent history with injuries, which sees no signs of abating, Campbell should have been more confident that he would have gotten more than a game or two.

It is the second time Campbell has left Arsenal, the first time in 2006, and has made 211 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals.

Arsenal Mania wishes Sol all the best in his future career, except when it's against Arsenal.
